This is my girl Cody; always by my side. From the beaches of Maine, to the lakes of Michigan, ranches in Montana and following my horse across the Colorado wilderness. Today we’re down by the barns and as usual she’s right beside me. But today is different. Today she won’t race me back to the house barking over her shoulder at me as I let her win. Instead, today she’ll stay here, beside a fewof her friends that have gone on before her. As I drop my shovel and kneel down to give her one last tear stained kiss goodbye, the pain crushes me to the ground like the weight of a thousand freight trains. But I believe that this pain is the yard stick by which we measure how much we have loved; and so I say bring on the pain, let it do its worst, for by this I know a life well lived. Goodbye my Cody Dog; I will miss you every day. Thank you, Home to Heaven, for helping me let go of her, so peacefully, in my own home.
